Tata power, based in Mumbai, India, is one of the largest power companies in India. It will launch the LED lighting program and work with OSRAM India and other local equipment manufacturers to develop LED lighting.
In this plan, consumers will be able to buy five household LED lamps for half the market price, which will cost only 525 rupees (about 51.2 yuan). On average, a single lamp only costs 105 rupees. In the case of LED lamps, such a low price is very close to the Indian government's target of 1 US dollar (equivalent to about 6.3 yuan) for LED bulbs.
According to a statement issued by Tata power, the plan is part of the demand side management initiative, which aims to promote and increase the popularity of household LED lights.
The 20W LED lamp can replace the 40W traditional lamp, and users will enjoy an additional 3-year warranty according to Tata power's announcement.
